The IT and Software Services Industry in Mexico

Mexico has everything it needs to become a key supplier to the world's Information Technology (IT) market.

In recent years Mexico's advantages have led to high growth rates in the value of IT services production. In 2010, the estimated market value for IT services production (including business process outsourcing or BPO) was 4.03 billion dollars, while the estimated market value for software was 2.259 billion dollars, according to Business Monitor International.

IT and BPO services exports experienced an 18% growth, reaching 3.72 billion dollars in 2009, and it is estimated that they will increase by 12% in 2010, reaching 4.15 billion dollars.


In addition, Gartner assigned Mexico an outstanding ranking in areas such as government support, costs, cultural affinity and human capital.


Companies Established in Mexico

There are more than 2 thousand IT companies established in Mexico, including the world's leading transnational companies IBM, HP, Accenture and Fujitsu, as well as other companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, SAP and Patni.


Strengths of the IT and Software Services Industry in Mexico

•Infrastructure. Mexico has more than 33 IT clusters located in 20 states, grouping more than 700 companies. In addition, academia, private initiative and government have coordinated efforts to develop 24 technology parks around the country. Currently, there are 223 registered development centers evaluated on at least one kind of quality process (standards such as CMMI or MoProsoft), in 21 Mexican states.

•Talent. Based on Mexico IT estimates, there are close to 600 thousand IT professionals in Mexico, including approximately 400 thousand professional software specialists. In addition, 65 thousand new professionals specialized in the industry graduate from Mexican institutions every year.

•Competitive Costs According to KPMG, Mexico is the country with the most competitive operation costs in software design, compared to some European and Asian countries and to the United States and Canada.
